DUDLEY – Shepherd Hill senior Tina Gauvin, like her best friend and fellow senior Taylor Daniels, has been one of the staples of the high schools sports program for the past four years and even though she is graduating and moving on, she will not be forgotten.

Extremely popular amongst her friends and fellow classmates, Gauvin has made quite a name for herself at the school for her dedication to both the soccer team and basketball team.

DUDLEY – The Shepherd Hill girls are getting closer and closer to clinching a playoff berth after winning games over Tantasqua, David Prouty, and Oxford this past week while upping their record to 8-3.

The Rams got the week started on Monday by squeaking by the Tantasqua Warriors 5-3 behind the pitching of junior Brenna Foley, who tossed a four-hitter.

OXFORD - The Shepherd Hill Rams were on their way to what looked like an easy win until the bottom of the seventh inning when the Oxford Pirates scored six runs in a rally that fell short when they left the bases loaded.

Rams righty Cam Scotia came in relief and struck out Liam Pickett, leaving the tying and winning runs on base and in scoring position in what would have seemed like an improbable comeback against the 11-2 Rams.

DUDLEY – It’s obvious that the Shepherd Hill Rams have plenty of power but it’s their outstanding pitching and fielding that has been their ticket so far.

The Rams got great back-to-back outings from seniors Adam Darling and Drew Ravenelle to first bury Southbridge 14-0 on Wednesday (April 23) and then edge a very good 9-2 Auburn team, 4-2, on Friday (April 25).  The shutout win was their third of the season, which is exceptional for high school baseball.

DUDLEY – The Auburn Rockets put together a huge six-run sixth inning and came back to knock off the Shepherd Hill Rams 7-6 in girls softball action last Friday (April 26).

The Rams put together a nice rally in the bottom of the second inning led by the timely hitting of  Marisa Colby and Kelsey Mosher and a sacrifice fly by Megan Gosselin to take a 4-0 lead which they kept until the fifth inning when the Rockets scored a lone run making it 4-1.

Emily Reynolds was coasting on the mound for the Rams before the Rockets exploded with their big inning to take a 7-4 lead.

A message to The Patriot subscribers, readers, and advertisers:

We are sorry to let you know that The Patriot newspaper will cease publication with the May 8 issue. For the last two years we've tried to make the paper a positive vehicle for news about the people, places, and events in the communities of Webster, Dudley and Oxford
.
We've heard from many of you that you really enjoy reading The Patriot, and so I think we succeeded in our mission.

However, the economics of keeping a subscription-based newspaper alive are very difficult, and The Patriot, like many other news publications, has been held hostage by that as well
.
We truly appreciate our faithful readers and will talk with you more in the remaining two issues.

If you are a subscriber, be assured that you will be refunded the remainder of your subscription. Please send us a note or email to receive the refund. If we do not hear from you, or if you so choose, we will donate the remaining money to the Hubbard Emergency Room fund, which will be matched by an anonymous donor.

We have a sister publication, the Yankee Shopper, which we will continue to publish, and many of our staff will stay on to help make that a local-business-oriented newspaper.

Thank you for all your support the last two years.

Prescription drug disposal day in Dudley

Saturday, April 27th from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m

DUDLEY--The Dudley Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public another opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs.  Bring your medications for disposal to The Dudley Police located inside the Dudley Municipal Complex at 71 West Main Street Dudley, Ma.  This is the fourth time an event such as this has been held in Dudley.  The last took place in October of 2012.  A large quantity of prescription medications were taken in at that time.  The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.

In addition to the prescription disposal, officials from Harrington Hospital will be on hand to provide medical information and limited health screenings to anyone interested.  A container to dispose of used needles and other medical sharps will be on hand for those who may require a safe method to dispose of these items.  The Dudley Police Department thanks Harrington Hospital once again for their assistance with this program.

If you have any questions or need further information, please contact Police Chief Steve Wojnar at 508-949-8023.
