And the winner is Trisha Berk

The Patriot/Yankee Shopper contest results:
Kids' 2012 Made in America Hunt forToys

by Nancie Zecco

Congratulations to Trisha Berk, 12-year old winner of our first Made in America Hunt for Toys contest. Trisha, who's from Woodstock, Conn., submitted 72 items made in the USA. She meticulously recorded and photographed each item. Her list included many board games, puzzles, Fisher Price toys, balls, card games. There were some old favorites like Mr. Potato Head, Snoopy's doghouse game, Tinker Toys, and dominoes. Trisha's grandmother told us she spent many hours preparing her submission, and it showed. Trisha will win the $150 first prize.

More winners follow.

Congratulations also to our second place winner, Amberlyn Given, 11, of Douglas, Mass. Amberlyn submitted a list of 51 toys, including popular games such as Monopoly, Scattergories, Yahtzee, and Pictionary. She mentioned some books, like the Berenstain Bears and Franklin Goes to School as well as stuffed animals from the Vermont Teddy Bear Company. Amberlyn will receive $100 for her entry.

The third place winner is 11-year old George C. Long III of Putnam, Conn. George contributed 18 items. His list included Memory games and the Justin Bieber Backstage Pass board game and Little Tikes toys. George will receive $50.

We also want to mention Seth Dutton, 8, of Putnam. Seth entered the contest one week, and the next week  he saw our story on American products available at Booklovers' Gourmet in Webster, and told us his family shops there all the time. Thanks, Seth.

All our winners will also receive a construction set from the K'NEX toy company, who read about our contest and offered to donate a prize to all our winners.

Finally, a shout out to Ms. Norma H. Waters of San Diego, Calif. She wrote to tell us that she enjoys the Shopping in the USA columns. She included a Pocono Cream of Buckwheat label with her note. The cereal is made in New York and she says it's excellent. Thank you, Ms. Waters.
