Sheriff inducts members into Criminal Justice Club

WORCESTER– The Quinsigamond Community College (QCC) Criminal Justice club recently had the honor to host a special presentation by Worcester County Sheriff Lew Evangelidis. During his visit on December 12^th, the Sheriff spoke about the importance of drug and alcohol rehabilitation and education, community service programs, and preventative programs such as his innovative and effective Face2FaceProgram, which he has personally presented to over 37,000 middle and high school students from throughout Worcester County to discuss the dangers of drug and alcohol use.  In addition, on that same night Sheriff Evangelidis inducted nineteen new members into the QCC Criminal Justice Club.   QCC’s main campus is located in Worcester with a satellite office in Southbridge.  Many members of the QCC Criminal Justice Club live in the Dudley-Webster area.

Adjunct Criminal Justice Professor Douglas Bushman, Advisor to the QCC Criminal Justice Club, spoke about the excitement of the Sheriffs’ visit. “Sheriff Lew Evangelidis’s presence and presentation to the members of the QCC Criminal Justice Club is something they will remember for a long time.  Our goal is to broaden the students understanding and familiarity with all the components of the criminal justice system and to help make a difference within the community.  Having the Sheriff attend our first official meeting helped make that a reality.  I also want to thank Professor Bill McCarthy, the Criminal Justice Coordinator, for providing advice and guidance in organizing the club and the event.”

“As Sheriff, it was an honor for me to be invited to the first official meeting of the QCC Criminal Justice Club to induct nineteen new members and to discuss the many innovative programs of the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office.   Meeting with our local college students is extremely important to ensure that future positions within the criminal justice field are filled with dedicated and educated individuals.  Community Colleges are a wonderful resource and serve a critical function in higher education, providing students will the essential skills necessary to pursue careers in both the private and public sector.”  Evangelidis continued “Upon taking office, I immediately increased the WCSO hiring standards by requiring applicants to have at minimum an Associate’s Degree and/or military experience.   Today’s meeting with QCCstudents and members of their Criminal Justice Club demonstrates the importance of that decision.   I look forward to working with the students of Quinsigamond Community College and all those who are members of the Criminal Justice Club in the future.”  Said Worcester County Sheriff Lew Evangelidis.

Professor Bushman also thanked the two officers of the QCC Criminal Justice Club President Jennifer Pulaski and Public Affairs Coordinator Kristin Kowalski for helping to organize the event. 

They are both students attending Quinsigamond Community College with an interest in Criminal Justice.
