WEBSTER – Whenever you hear Bartlett girl’s basketball coach Chris Delvecchio talk about his basketball team, he always has positive things to say about his young team and it’s easy to see why. They are young and they are improving.
The lady Indians dropped a couple of games last week and although the scores look lopsided (Tantasqua 60-21, Northbridge 51-15), they did show some positive signs in both games, giving plenty of reason for optimism.
Senior Kayla Sizer led the Indians with 10 points versus Tantasqua, while scrappy sophomore Lindsay Finkel added 6 points in a supporting role.
In the Northbridge loss, senior Ashtin Morio led the way with six points, while junior Kayla Podell had a nice game defensively with 4 blocked shots and 6 rebounds. Sizer also had 2 points, 4 steals, and 2 rebounds in a losing effort.
The Indians take on the Oxford Pirates Wednesday, Dec. 19 and travel to Blackstone-Milville on Friday, Dec. 21.
The Bartlett jayvees lost to Tantasqua 40-25 and to Northbridge 41-23. Freshman Caroline James and freshman Natalie Terranova each had 8 points in the loss, while Ashley Iwanski added 5 points. James also led the 1-2 Indians in scoring against Northbridge with 9 points in a solid losing effort.
