DUDLEY -  The Shepherd Hill Rams opened a 30-5 lead in the first quarter and coasted to a 75-20 win over the Bartlett Indians in Southern Worcester County League girl’s action on Thursday night.

Junior guard Brooke Packard led the Rams in scoring with 17 points in limited action as the Rams were able to get a big lead and maintain it throughout the contest.

The Rams lineup of senior co-captain guard Tina Gauvin, senior co-captain forward Taylor Daniels, senior center Johanna L' Heureux,  junior Dominique Woods, and Packard proved too strong for the less experienced Indians, who were no match for the Rams.

“They (Bartlett) worked hard and they were playing until the end, you have to give them a lot of credit for hanging in there,” said Rams coach Jim Hackenson. “We’ve got some talent and we can run the court pretty well.”

‘We distributed the ball well and read the court and as long as we stay unselfish we are going to be a very competitive team,” said Hackenson.

Packard said that she liked the way her team played in a game that may have been a little harder for the Rams to get up for. “Our defense created our offense, we all shared the ball and we played as a team and got the job done.”

L’Heureux also played a strong inside game for the Rams, scoring 12 points in a nice supporting role.

The Indians, who fell to 2-5, were led by freshman Lindsay Finkel, who had 11 points

The Rams also won the preliminary 50-25. Meaghan Turner led the Rams with 17 points, while Micaela Rice added 9 points. Caroline James led the Indians with 13 points in the loss.

The 3-1 Shepherd Hill will host Grafton at home Thursday, January 3, while the Indians are also at home on January 3 against Millbury.
