Long-time Bartlett High School Athletic Director and former coach and teacher Rene Langevin will be retiring at the end of the school year.  He has been an instrumental part of the Bartlett Athletic Department for many years and will be greatly missed at the school.  We at The Patriot wish Coach Langevin a long and happy retirement!

Lose to Quaboag, rebound vs. Prouty

WEBSTER – Junior right-hander Justin Caro pitched an outstanding two hitter while leading the Bartlett Indians to a 7-2 win over archrival Southbridge on Monday (April 22).

Caro had a no hitter entering the seventh inning and gave up a pair of hits with one out but retired the final two batters of the game for the win.

Sophomore Ryan Sullivan and senior Billy Phillips supplied the key offense for the Indians.

WEBSTER – The Bartlett Indians hosted their first ever Indian Baseball Classic tournament in Webster last Tuesday (April 16), and all indications are that it was a huge success.

With games taking place at both the Upper Athletic field and at Bartlett High school at 1—and aconsolation and title game at the Upper Athletic at 3 and 7—the crowds came out, and it was a great baseball atmosphere.

OXFORD –  Oxford sophomore Dan Caissie delivered the goods, driving home Dennis Sneade with a pinch hit RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Pirates a dramatic walk-off 3-2 win over the Bartlett Indians in a tough encounter between the neighboring towns’ schools.

The game featured a good pitching duel between Pirates senior ace right-hander Nick Cardoni and rookie left-hander freshman John Hughes, who sparkled in his varsity debut performance on the mound.

OXFORD – The Oxford Lady Pirates split two games last week, defeating Bartlett 15-2 and falling to Auburn 8-7.

In their 15-2 win, sophomore Erica Fradsham made her varsity debut and pitched extremely well, while junior Jamie Brodeur banged out a pair of hits and drove in three runs.

WEBSTER – The Shepherd Hill girls' tennis team squeezed by the Bartlett girls 3-2 in a very competitive contest last Wednesday.

In singles action, the Rams' top singles, player sophomore Abbey Packard, defeated senior Amanda Stevens, 6-4, 3-6, 6-0; Indians' sophomore Karolina Dzieminski, who has been very impressive in the early season, beat senior Callie Mulcahy in straight sets 6-3, 7-5, and the Indians' Indre Noujokiate was also a straight sets winner, beating Victoria Crowe, 6-3, 6-1.

FISKDALE – Junior right hander Evan Anderson pitched six solid innings of four-hit ballgame and the Bartlett Indians got some timely hitting from junior Anthony Higbie and sophomore James Patterson en route to an 8-2 win over the Tantasqua Warriors in their season opener on Friday afternoon.

Despite a shaky start with two first inning walks with the bases loaded, Anderson settled down and pitched an excellent game, striking out seven batters while scattering the four hits.

FISKDALE – With only one day of practice outdoors because of the poor field conditions due to a long winter, the Bartlett girls played their first game of the season and despite losing 7-1 to Tantasqua were upbeat afterwards.

The new-look Indians led by first-year coach Ryan Renauld and assistant Jeff Flynn, who took over for Colleen Nasis, are in a rebuilding phase and have a very young squad, so the lack of practice was a definite factor and it didn’t help opening against a solid Tantasqua Warriors team, but the Indians did well despite the loss.

WEBSTER – The Bartlett Indians and second year head coach Jonathan Way have only one way to go this season and that’s up.

Following a dismal 4-14 campaign, the Indians will be looking to turn things around this season and their quest for respectability starts in Fiskdale against Tantasqua Regional on Friday, March 29, at 3:30.

FITCHBURG – The Bartlett Indians season may have ended this past Thursday night, but not before the green and white played one of their best games of the year in an intense, heated contest in which they fell to Central Mass powerhouse St. Bernard’s 75-66 in front of a packed house.

The Indians and their fans knew they would have a huge task in hand against one of the best teams in Central Mass, but coach Tony Paranto and his staff came up with a superb game plan that had upset written all over it for almost three quarters.
