Bartlett girls fall to Southbridge
By Steev Riccardo and Jacob Murphy
WEBSTER – The highly talented Southbridge Pioneers knocked off the Bartlett Indians 45-20 last Tuesday, January 8, in Southern Worcester County League action at Bartlett High School.
The Indians kept it close in the first half but were the victims of the Pioneers’ strong defensive pressure that forced multiple turnovers, especially in the second half, and propelled a 26-10 score.
Bartlett junior forward Kayla Podell continued to shine on defense for the Indians as she blocked seven Pioneers shots. Sophomore guard Lindsay Finkel led the Indians in scoring with seven points.
Freshman Caroline James sparked the Bartlett junior varsity to a 35-14 win in the preliminary with 20 points.
Prior to the game the players, staff, and fans in attendance paid tribute to Jim Boudreau, a Bartlett high school employee, who passed away last year.
The Bartlett girls play at Douglas on January 16.
