David F. Beland, 72
WEBSTER - David F. Beland, 72, of School Street, died Saturday, October 20, 2012 in Parsons Hill Nursing Home & Rehabilitation Center, Worcester, after a long illness.
He leaves 2 brothers, Norman L. Beland and his wife Mary of Westborough and Richard P. “Chick” Beland of Worcester; his longtime friends, Kevin and Becky Walsh and family of Dudley; nephews, nieces and many friends. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Peter, Robert and Donald Beland.
He was born and raised in Worcester, a son of Henry and Eva (Lanieur) Beland. He lived in Boston for over 25 years. He then moved back to Worcester for 10 years before taking up residence in Webster in 1994. He earned his high school diploma from Bartlett High School’s GED program in 2002; he was awarded top honors in his class and inducted into the National Honor Society.
Mr. Beland was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam Era. He was a chef at various Boston restaurants for 25 years. He then volunteered at a Worcester furniture clearing house for 5 years. After he retired he was a volunteer for the Senior Corps’ Senior Companion Program, which is a service provided by Tri-Valley, Inc. In 1990, Mr. Beland received the National Volunteer Award presented by Chock Full O’ Nuts Coffee for his dedication to the Worcester Committee of Homelessness and Housing. He was a longtime friend of Bill W. and helped many people over the years.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 3, in Saint Anthony of Padua Church, 24 Dudley Hill Road, Dudley. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours. Donations in his name may be made to the Senior Companion Program, c/o Senior Center, 128 Providence Street, Worcester, MA 01604. Arrangements are under the direction of Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School Street, Webster.
