Sturbridge - Ellen B. (Buckities) Speed, age 96, died Wednesday, July 4, 2012, at UMASS Memorial Health Care - University Campus, Worcester.

Her husband, Kenneth G. Speed died in 1998. She leaves three sons, Douglas A. Speed of East Hampton, MA., Jack A. Speed of White Horse, Canada, and Gordon K. Speed of Salts Spring Island, B.C., Canada; a daughter, Andrea Edwards of Beline, New Mexico and six grandchildren.

Ellen was born in East Hampton, MA., daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Sicanaviche) Buckities and lived in West Springfield before moving to Sturbridge in 1970. She was a homemaker. She was a participant in America's Amigo's and volunteered at Old Sturbridge Village.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, July 12, 2012, at 3:00 pm in the Sturbridge Federated Church, 8 Maple Street, Sturbridge. Please go directly to the church. There are no calling hours. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 311 Arsenal Street, #4, Watertown, MA 02472.
