George A. Smith, 87

OXFORD – George A. Smith, 87, of Carey Lane, died Friday, August 24, 2012, at Radius Healthcare Center in Worcester, with his daughter by his side. He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Rita A. (Latino) Smith of Oxford who died in 2010. He is survived by two children, Karen V. Szufat and her husband Luke of Worcester, and Stephen A. Smith and his wife Patricia of Corinth, TX; six grandchildren, Lauren, Lucas, Brent, Brandon, Michael, and Kyle; a great grandson, Camren; and he was anticipating the arrival of another great grandson, Alexander. He was predeceased by three brothers, James, Malcom, and Neil. He was born in Vinalhaven, ME, the son of the late Alexander M. and Daisy M. (Stratton) Smith, and lived in Oxford for over 50 years.

Mr. Smith was retired from Thompson Wire Company in Worcester. He raised champion beagles. His happiest times were those he spent with his family.

Calling hours are Monday, August 27, 2012, from 6-9 p.m. at Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford. A prayer service will be held at 8 p.m. during the calling hours.
