George E. Landry, Jr., 82

SPENCER / OXFORD – George E. Landry, Jr., 82, of Howe Village, died Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester.  He was born in French Island, Old Town, ME, the son of the late George E. and Edna A. (Pinkham) Landry, Sr.

He is survived by five children, Brenda M. Landry, Cheryl A. Guerin, Janet M. Lamoureux and her husband Stephen, Beth I. Snyder and her companion Marek Kielar, and Kevin E. Landry and his wife Nora; his former wife, Charlotte O. (Ivy) Landry; two sisters, Lorraine Babus and Virginia Stone; seven grandchildren, Sarah and Stacey Snyder, Allyssa Masiello, Bryant and Connor Guerin, Holly and Alivia Lamoureux; and many nephews and nieces. He graduated from Old Town High School in 1948 and attended Quinsigamond Community College in Worcester.

George was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.  During his time in the service, he served aboard the U.S.S. Bushnell AS-15, known as the “Burning Bush” as a corpsman and operating room technician.  After his discharge from the military, he was a salesman for several pharmaceutical companies, an auxiliary police officer in Old Town, ME and a respiratory therapist at Hubbard Hospital in Webster, MA.

Having a passion for cooking and working as a cook and caterer for most of his life, George also owned and operated George’s Sub Shop in North Oxford for several years.  He was a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2537 in Old Town, ME.  He loved fishing and hunting, and was a Patriots and Red Sox fan.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at St. Ann’s Church, 652 Main St., North Oxford.  Friends and family are respectfully requested to meet directly at the church.  Calling hours are Monday, February 11, 2013, from 6-8 p.m. at Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford.  Burial will be at the convenience of the family.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Ann’s Church, P.O.
