Gerald P. Deary, 78
WEBSTER – Gerald P. “Gerry” Deary, 78, died Saturday, February 2, 2013 in Lanessa Extended Care.
He leaves a brother, William J. Deary, and a sister, Barbara M. Morse, both of Worcester; nephews and nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces. He was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Francis J. Deary, Jr., Bernard C. Deary, Joseph H. Deary and Edward T. Deary.
He was born and raised in Dudley, the youngest son of Francis J. Deary, Sr. and Anna V. (Kangley) Deary. He graduated from St. Louis High School in 1952 and from Providence College in 1956.
Mr. Deary was first a teacher at and then principal of Mason Road School in Dudley. He then was the Director of Title One and subsequently the Director of Elementary Education in Webster before he retired in 1992.
He was an active member of Saint Anthony of Padua Church in Dudley, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister. He was a longtime member of the Serra Club of Southern Worcester County. He was a trustee of the Chester C. Corbin Public Library for many years. He served the Town of Webster as a member of the Finance Committee and also as a Selectman from 1993 to 1996. He enjoyed collecting Waterford crystal and Hummel figurines as well as antiques. He was proud of his Irish heritage and took several trips to Ireland.
The funeral will be held Thursday, February 7, from Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main St., with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Saint Anthony of Padua Church, 24 Dudley Hill Road, Dudley. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Dudley. Calling hours will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday, February 6, in the funeral home. Donations in his memory may be made to either St. Louis School Endowment Fund, 15 Lake Street, or to St. Anne’s Elementary School, 12 Day St., PO Box 818, or to the Chester C. Corbin Public Library, 2 Lake St., all in Webster, MA 01570.
