John P. Brassard, 81

OXFORD – John P. Brassard, 81, of 27 Wheelock Street, died Saturday, July 28, 2012, at Harrington HealthCare at Hubbard Regional Hospital in Webster. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ruth A. (Lambert) Brassard of Oxford; six children, Karen T. Vezina and her husband Master Chief Petty Officer (SEAL) Kevin M. Vezina of Virginia Beach, VA; Jay P. Brassard of Hickory, NC, Lesa A. Zollo of Holland, MA, Melissa A. Bohanan of Woodstock, CT, Leslie J. Edens and her husband Brigadier General Timothy J. Edens of Fort Rucker, AL, and Mark J. Brassard and his wife Kim of Oxford; a sister, Theresa A. Berard of Spencer, 14 grandchildren and 2 great granddaughters. He was predeceased by his brother, Paul A. Brassard. He was born in Franklin, NH, the son of the late Albert M. and Catherine L. (Bell) Brassard, and lived in Oxford most of his life. He graduated from Oxford High School. 

Mr. Brassard was a photographer for the Worcester Telegram and Gazette for over 30 years, retiring in 2000. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, and received 2 Purple Heart awards for injuries sustained in battle.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in New Hampshire. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 1131, Fairfax, VA 22038-1131. Paradis Funeral Home in Oxford is assisting with arrangements.
