Maurice B. Negip, 88
WEBSTER – Maurice B. Negip, 88, of Webster, died Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at home after being stricken ill. His wife of 51 years, Rita M. (Davern) Negip, died in 1998.
He leaves a son, Mark B. Negip and his wife Linda of Danvers; a granddaughter, Michelle Negip; 3 sisters, Helen Fontaine of Southbridge, Virginia Lavallee of Charlton and Stasia Buczynski of Eagle River, Alaska; nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his 3 brothers, Edward, Emil and Richard Negip and by 2 sisters, Doris Augustynski and Theresa Leboeuf.
He was born and raised in North Grosvenordale, CT, a son of Aleusch and Stella (Lenky) Negip. He lived there until moving to Webster in 1955. He attended Tourtellotte Memorial High School and left in his senior year to enlist. He played on the varsity baseball and basketball teams. The basketball team won the state championship that year. He was the first person named to the Tourtellotte Memorial High School Hall of Fame. In 2010, he was awarded his high school diploma at the school’s annual commencement.
He was a World War II Army veteran.
Mr. Negip was a pattern tester at Cranston Print Works Company for over 40 years before he retired in 1994.
He was a member of Saint Louis Church, the Webster-Dudley American Legion Post #184, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a former member of the Serra Club of Southern Worcester County.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, August 21, from Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Saint Louis Church, 14 Lake Street. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Dudley. The Webster-Dudley Veterans Council will perform the military honors at the cemetery. Calling hours will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Monday, August 20, in the funeral home.
