Rita C. Walker, 89

QUINEBAUG, CT – Rita C. (Salinger) Walker, 89, of Quinebaug, died Saturday, May 5, 2012 in Westview Health Care Center, Dayville after an illness. Her husband of 53 years, G. Harold Walker, died in 1996.

She leaves a daughter-in-law, Joy Walker of Florida; a granddaughter Amy; a great granddaughter Savannah; a nephew, Paul Bourbeau and his wife Susan; a niece, Kathleen Walker; a cousin, Florence Parmenter; 4 great nephews, Matthew, James and Andrew Bourbeau and Jonathan Frechin; and a great niece, Heidi Frechin. She was preceded in death by her son George W. Walker in 1981.

She was born and raised in Webster, the daughter of Henry and Celia (Emonds) Salinger and graduated from Bartlett High School in 1941. She moved to Quinebaug when she married in 1953.

Mrs. Walker was a spooler at Fabyan Woolen in Fabyan for many years before she retired in 1985. She was a member of Saint Stephen’s Church and volunteered at its annual chicken barbecue for many years. She was also a former member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Quinebaug Fire Department and volunteered at its social events for many years.

The funeral will be held Saturday, May 12, from Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main St, Webster, MA, with a Mass at 1:00 PM in St. Stephen’s Church, corner of Rts. 131 & 197. Burial will be in West Thompson Cemetery, Thompson. Calling hours will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Friday, May 11, in the funeral home. Donations in her name may be made to the George W. Walker Scholarship Fund, c/o Quinebaug Fire Department, PO Box 144, Quinebaug, CT 06262-0144.
