Auburn - Sergiej "Mike" Haponenko, age 87, formerly of Auburn MA, died Saturday, June 2, 2012, at the Kindred Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Assisted Living Facility, in Beverly, Massachusetts.

He was predeceased by his wife, Ella Frida Gerda Herms. He leaves three sons, Michael Haponenko of Pueblo West, CO., Peter Haponenko of Peabody, MA., and George Haponenko of Worcester, MA.; a daughter, Sonja Hendricks of Ireland; several sisters and one brother; 4 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

He was born in the Ukraine, son of the late Iwan and Anastasia (Semenetsch) Haponenko and lived in Germany before moving to Auburn in 1951. He was a long time member of the South Worcester MA Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. He was a retired mechanic, having worked many years at Whiting's Milk Company in Worcester, MA.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2012, at 6:45 PM in the Shaw-Majercik Funeral Home, 48 School Street, Webster. Calling hours at the funeral home are Saturday, June 9th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Burial is private.
