Theresa E. Browning, 71

Brooklyn - Theresa E. Browning, 71, of Brooklyn, Connecticut and Sarasota, Florida died in her Brooklyn home surrounded by her family on February 2, 2013.

She was born in Norwich, Connecticut on October 9th, 1941, the daughter of the late Georgie (Bates) Barnes and the late Arthur John Ellal, stepdaughter of the late Donald Barnes Sr.

Theresa graduated from Griswold High School and Eastern Connecticut State University with her Bachelors and Masters degrees in Education. She worked as a teacher in the Brooklyn School System for over 30 years. In 1988, she and her son Charles founded Browning and Browning Real Estate in Brooklyn, CT.

She married Otis Avery Browning III on September 10th, 1960, who survives her. She is also survived by her children, Mary Beth Malin and Wayne Malin of Griswold, CT, Charles Browning and Nicole Garbutt of Brooklyn, CT and Kathleen Browning of Boston, MA, her grandchildren Hillary Malin and Daniel Malin of Griswold, CT, Phillip Browning, Joshua Boisse, Joseph Garbutt, Isabella Garbutt and Gabriella Garbutt all of Brooklyn, and her sisters, Joan Neil of Waterford, CT, Pat Thompson of North Stonington, CT, Sharon Breen and her husband, Richard Breen, of Griswold, CT, and Kathy Bowman and her husband, Rev Thomas Bowman of Kingman, IN. A sister, Margaret Lawrence of Plainfield, CT, predeceased her. Theresa also had many nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces and great nephews.

A memorial service at Preston City Congregational Church will occur on February 16th, 2013 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Office of Development, 330 Brookline Avenue Boston, MA 02215.
